Geocaching in the Outskirts

What it is?

Geocaching is a technological treasure hunting game played around the world by adventure seekers equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) navigational device. The goal is to locate hidden treasures or containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocachers are people from all walks of life and all ages.  A geocacher can either maintain a cache or search for a cache.

What you will need?

  1. Acesss to the internet. Thay way you can get to Geocaching.com its your source for locating treasures and other geocaching resources. Outskirts Geocaching Center can be your stop for that. Log in to your accounts get maps and locations you want to hunt.
  2. A GPS (we have them here) or a topo map so you can track coordinates.
  3. Mode of transportation. Depending on your search area you can bike (we have those too) walk or drive.
  4. A starting point and a log book. You are ready to start.

Before hitting the trail.

  1. Find a geocache that will meet your immediate goals. Are you looking for a difficult hike or an easy adventure? Learn How to Find a Geocache
  2. If you're headed out on the trail, pack any needed supplies such as water, food and extra clothing. Bring both a map and a compass. Check geocache terrain and difficulty ratings.
  3. For safety, let someone know where you are going.
  4. Do not forget your GPS unit and extra batteries.

Be aware of your environment. Dont trash your area the geocachers behind you will appreciate it.
